How we verify

Florida Pool Builder Check is compiled from public records, not from who paid to be listed.

Sources

• Florida DBPR construction licensee extract — Daily file of every construction licence the Department of Business and Professional Regulation issues: class, licensee, business name, address of record, county, status, original licence date and expiry.
• CILB contractor discipline files — Final disciplinary actions and Construction Industries Recovery Fund actions against licensed contractors, published by fiscal year by the Construction Industry Licensing Board.

We download DBPR's construction licensee extract (CONSTRUCTIONLICENSE_1.csv) and keep the two pool classes: Certified Pool/Spa Contractor (CPC) and Registered Pool/Spa Contractor (RP). We publish a licence only when its primary status is Current and its secondary status is Active, and its address of record is in Florida. Inactive, delinquent, null-and-void and revoked licences are left out entirely.

The name shown is the business name ("doing business as") on the licence; the qualifying agent is the licensed individual responsible for the company's work. The address is the address of record the licensee gave DBPR, which is sometimes a home or mailing address rather than an office.

Discipline: we match licence numbers against the CILB's licensed-contractor discipline and Recovery Fund files for every fiscal year DBPR publishes (currently FY 2021-22 onward). Matches are shown on the profile as dated entries with the case number, disposition and the actions DBPR lists. We show the record as published and draw no conclusions from it; older actions and open complaints are not in these files.

Order within a city: active licences first, then years licensed (longest first, capped at 40), then alphabetical. Featured contractors appear in a separate, labelled box and never change that order.

The extract has no phone numbers. Contractors who claim their listing can add one. The extract does not distinguish residential, commercial and servicing pool categories, and does not include swimming pool servicing licences issued under other codes.

What a badge means

Actively licensed: the business's pool/spa contractor licence appears in the Florida Department of Business and Professional Regulation (DBPR) licensee extract with primary status Current and secondary status Active on the date shown. We only publish positive matches. A listing without a badge is not an accusation — most gaps are name variations between registries.

Freshness

Data was last refreshed on 2026-09-30. DBPR regenerates the licensee extract daily and the discipline files as cases close; we re-pull both weekly.
